The group had been performing in vocal groups for years before stardom arrived - they even had some limited national success in the 1950's. The group, as we know them, however, date back to 1961, when they changed their name, dropped the lounge-pop they had been doing, and aimed straight for the teen rock market with Philadelphia producer Bob Crewe.
